Andrea Tarella began his career by making illustrated books for schools and children, then continuing with various collaborations with international and luxury brands in fashion.
Ambientha begins collaborating with Andrea Tarella in 2019 for the creation of the first wallpapers, stories that see nature as the protagonist: colourful Deja Vu that explore the mind and caress the spirit and lush blooms of huge tropical flowers .
Ambientha interviews Andrea Tarella
Tell us something about yourself, what are the passions you can’t live without?
I was born and I grew up in Verbania, on the Maggiore Lake, surrounded by wonderful landscapes, many gardens and many animals. Surely all this led me to have a great passion for plants and animals and this passion followed me here in Milan. In my drawings, nature is the element that almost always appears.

When did you choose to make illustration your profession?
I’ve always drawn since I was a child, it was easier for me to draw, than to speak. A few years ago, after having had the opportunity to work for Elio Fiorucci , I decided to try to make my passion a job.

How do your designs come to life? What is your creative process?
Usually I create an idea, an image in my mind and I think about it for a while. I try and try in my head until I think I’m ready to put myself in front of the blank sheet to start drawing.
How would you describe your style?
Imperfect, I don’t have a clean and precise line. I like that there are errors in my drawings, they reassure me and allow me to make them truly mine.

Your portfolio is full of artistic projects with luxury brands in the fashion sector. Do you want to tell us one of the most significant experiences for you?
Each project has its history, a beginning and an end and something that makes it special. Surely the Prada project that involved me in the launch of the Minimal Baroque eyewear collection was the one I always remember with pleasure. I was very young and a beginner and working for such an important brand was a great challenge, full of satisfactions.
Your works are not intended only for famous brands and large international companies but also for social projects. Do you want to tell us about this choice and what have you achieved in this area?
I have always worked in the social field, it is a part of me that lives parallel to the world of illustration. Whenever possible, I try to cross the two things, such as the approaches to art for people with mental and physical disabilities that I carry out with the IL LABORATORIO ONLUS association.
Let’s change the sector again, talking now about interior design and the collaboration with Ambientha. What inspired you to create the Red Blooming wallpaper and its colour variants Sky Blue Blooming and Violet Blooming ?
Like many of my designs, I started with floral elements, leaves and flowers that I enjoyed combining in different ways and with different shades of colour.

Ambientha’s music playlists are the musical accompaniment of the interiors in which our products are included. Which song seems the best to you to accompany the Red Blooming wallpaper you designed?
Zola Jesus – Run me out
So let’s say goodbye, what are your artistic dreams for the future?
I would very much like to be able to start creating designs for textile prints or otherwise intended for the creation of products of various kinds.
